What was your main creative goal for this explainer video?

“Conveying a clear message is always my top priority,” said Tim Spencer, Art Director at Digital Brew. “With this video, I wanted to maintain a pacing that would keep viewers engaged from start to finish. I aimed to use a mix of techniques to show that there are many ways to approach the visuals while keeping the message clear and cohesive. We also had the opportunity to refresh the branding, which added an extra layer of challenge. I didn’t want to abandon what worked before, I wanted to evolve it. The goal was to bring new energy with bright gradients and dynamic moments while also creating places for the eye to rest using white space and balance.”

What were some of the key visual ideas you wanted to establish early in the storyboard phase?

“Early on, I wanted to set a tone that felt polished but not overly corporate.”

“Since we often work with stock video, I looked for ways to incorporate it creatively, adding moments of quirk and character so it wouldn’t feel stiff or generic. I also wanted to mix in some handmade elements to bring warmth and craft. I have a love for traditional frame-by-frame animation, so I worked in small touches of that, like the looping flame in the logo. I even explored Blender to create a few 3D shapes for more dynamic movement and used some AI-generated imagery in places where stock just wasn’t cutting it. It became a real mix of tools and textures that made the piece feel fresh.”

If there’s one takeaway you’d want marketers to remember from this project, what would it be?

“Have fun and try new things. There are countless ways to tell a story visually, and it’s worth experimenting to find what works. But above all, keep clarity at the top of your priority list. Abstract ideas and cool graphics only land when the audience can quickly understand what they’re seeing. The best creative work finds that balance between clarity, craft, and curiosity.”
