Don’t Waste Money on a Useless Marketing Video
No, you didn’t read that wrong. We, a video production company, just told you to not waste your money on a useless marketing video. And no, we’re not crazy. We really mean it! We hear –more often than we would like- from our clients that they have at some point in their business lifetime paid for a video that turned out so bad that they could not bring themselves to use it for their marketing. The worst part is that the time and money invested on those useless videos were significant. So we will tell you once again, don’t waste money on a useless marketing video. Instead, do invest in an awesome video that will impress your audience and convert your leads. How can you avoid paying for a video that is useless?

Start With a Little Research

Put your detective hat on and get to work. Research the creative agencies you’re considering hiring. Check for signs that they can produce a video you would be proud of showing to the world. Take a look at their previous work, especially their most recent ones. Are they any good? Do they have the quality you would expect?

Dig Deeper

If you want an animated explainer, check if that company has done a good job on that specific type of video. If you want a customer testimonial video, check those types of videos on their portfolio. This is important because some companies may excel in all types of videos while others may only be good at one specific type. Don’t assume that because they produced a great company trailer that they will be able to give you a great explainer video. Investigate to make sure they can deliver the product you want with the quality you expect.

Don’t Stop There

Ask them how involved in the process they will allow you to be. If they hesitate one bit to answer, run! No matter how competent a video production company is, if they don’t let you give your two cents during the production process, you’ll likely end up with a video you don’t like. Once the video is done and delivered, they will probably give you even less opportunity to talk or make any sort of changes. If they didn’t want to listen to you then, they aren’t going to listen to you now.

Understand Your Budget

As cliche as it sounds, you really will get what you pay for. The higher your budget the better your videos will turn out – if you’ve done your research and chose an excellent video production company, that is. You can still get a decent video that will be great for your marketing, even if you have a lower budget, but the scope of the project will be different than what you would get for a higher price. Be realistic when it comes to your budget and what you can get for it. Your expectations may not match your budget. If that is the case, you need a reality check to avoid disappointment later on in the process.

Be Wary of Deals

If the price seems to be too good to be true, it probably is. Crafting a great video is no easy task. It involves many working hours, a set of talent, and many cups of coffee. That comes with a price. So if a company offers you a great deal, be aware. Ask them -and yourself- where are they cutting corners and costs to get that video produced for that price.

Here’s the Gist

Spend some time doing your research and save yourself money and frustration later in the process. In the end, you will be happy you did. After all, you will have a marketing video that you are proud of and that brings you the returns you expected.
