The Value of Explainer Videos: Quarantine Edition
April 9, 2020
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought countless changes to our world recently. With most countries in some sort of lock down, it’s no mystery why internet usage and explainer videos have skyrocketed within the last month.
The world is coming together in ways we’ve never seen before, and video is at the core of these connections. And although there is still a lot of unknowns with this virus (especially for businesses) it’s comforting to focus on the things you do know:
- You know where your audience is. All the time people would normally spend commuting, getting ready to leave their house, etc, is now all spent online. In fact, according to a study conducted by Statista, 44% of internet users worldwide are spending more time on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, where videos outrank all other types of content. 63.7% of social media users in the US say they’ll browse YouTube “slightly or significantly more” while confined at home.
- You know what media they are consuming. So clearly, you know your audience is online. But more than that, they’re engaging with friends and family on social platforms, or learning new information or skills on YouTube. In fact, viewership on sites like Facebook and YouTube is so high, they’re reducing video streaming quality to limit internet strain. If you have a message to get out to your audience right now, an explainer video is exactly what you need.
- You know how your brand can help. Not all businesses offer services or supplies that will directly benefit people during this crisis, but every brand has a way they can help. Whether it’s reminding your audience the importance of staying home, spreading important information, or even being a source of laughter and entertainment, there are countless ways to stay in touch with your users.
