Brewmaster Spotlight: Rachel Levine
Rachel is one of our freshest members here at Digital Brew. Today, we’re celebrating her first month as a Brewmaster! She hails from Brooklyn, NY, where she studied and worked for the past four years designing and animating projects for companies like CNN Digital and Comedy Central. Read on and get to know her!

WHAT DO YOU DO HERE AT DIGITAL BREW?

I’m a designer + animator. I do a variety of things – I design, I animate, make sparkles come out of my pockets! *giggles* Right now, I’m working on animated explainer videos. I’m in the process of creating storyboards.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT BEING A MOTIONS GRAPHIC DESIGNER?

It’s a fun career! I like the problem-solving and the challenges that come with it. I like coming to work every day and being able to do what I love.

GIVE US TWO TRUTHS AND ONE LIE.

I once had to sue my parents. Unicorns are my favorite animal (yes, they’re real!). *stalls for a minute and totally gives away the lie* I’m ambidextrous (it means I can write with both hands). Rachel covering her face

WAIT, WHAT? YOU HAVE TO TELL US THE STORY ABOUT SUING YOUR PARENTS!

Funny story, my name was spelled wrong on my birth certificate (thanks, dad). My dad’s family is Jewish, so naturally, it was important that I carried a Jewish name. But nope, for years it read “R-A-C-H-A-E-L” on my documents. So when I turned sixteen and wanted to get my license I had to sue my parents to have my name changed. Levine v. Levine! I had to stand in front of a judge and explain why my dad couldn’t spell my name 16 years prior. It was embarrassing, but it all worked out in the end!

SO YOU’RE NEW TO THE CITY BEAUTIFUL, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT SO FAR?

I like it! It’s a fun city, it’s got character and it’s full of hidden pockets.

ARE YOU SAYING WE’RE AS COOL AS BROOKLYN?

I mean Brooklyn holds a special place in my heart. It’s the place where I became an adult, and I come from a family that moved around a lot. So Brooklyn was kind of my first “home-home”. It’s just different, but I do love it here!

WHAT’S A DESIGN TOOL YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

The Wacom tablet! Just because I’ve forgotten how to use a mouse! So without it I’m not very good at a computer.

PERSONAL MANTRA?

Uhh, I don’t really live by quotes. I feel like I live by some philosophies. Something that I definitely try to do is to be out of my comfort zone. “You can’t predict what doors open you just have to walk through them all and see what happens”. Doing that is what landed me here! Thanks, Rachel. We’re excited to have you on our team! We promise not to mess up your name.
