How to Make Your Explainer Video Last for Years to Come

You put a lot of time and effort into creating the perfect explainer video for your company, and so does your production company (if you choose the right one…), so it makes sense to utilize every aspect of it for as long as possible, right?

Of course! But that can be easier said than done. Like any piece of content, oversharing your video can make it feel stale. Also, certain aspects of your video will “date” it, meaning it will be clear what year, or how long ago your video was created.

So, to help combat that, we’ve put together a list of tips on how to make sure your explainer video lasts for years to come!

Limit Specifics

One of the best ways to avoid “dating” your video is to leave out specifics. This can be tricky because the point of an explainer video is to detail the ins and outs of your company, but if you know how to replace specifics with more generalized versions, it shouldn’t be too hard. Here are a few examples:

  • Instead of saying “5 years ago,” say “In 2015,”
  • Instead of mentioning specific names, mention job titles
  • Instead of “51%” say “Over 50%”
  • Create a simplified version of your UI in case you update it later

Implementing little tricks like this will make sure your video is never dated, so it can last for 5+ years.

Innovative Animation Quality

There’s nothing more telling of an explainer video’s age than outdated production quality. Sure, a mediocre style of animation may look okay now, but what about a year later? 3 years? 5?

And don’t get us started on “cheap” animations. DIY explainer videos or videos you get from the cheap guys already look outdated.

With innovative animation and cutting-edge techniques, your explainer video will not only look in the present, but it will hold its own well into the future.

Make Use of Your Assets

As we mentioned earlier, using the same video over and over again, like any type of media, will get old pretty quickly. But video is a wonderful thing, because you can actually create multiple forms of media from just one video. By doing this, you’re extending the life of your animation well beyond what it could be. Some of the extra goodies you can get out of your animation include:

  • Gifs
  • Shorter social clips
  • Video headers
  • Art assets to use in your marketing

In the End…

Your best bet for creating a stunning animated explainer video that will last you well into the future, is to work with a professional (preferably an Emmy™ award winning) production company that understands who you are, who your audience is, and most importantly, knows how to make you money.
