How to Work with a Team of Creatives
October 15, 2020
You may have heard a lot of things about what it’s like to work with a team of creatives. Most business people see the “creative types” as tumultuous, unorganized, and unresponsive.
So, going to a creative production studio to help you develop your explainer video may have you feeling a little nervous about the experience. But to help you ease your nerves, we’ve got a few tips for you!
Pick the Right Creative Team
This is probably one of the most important aspects of a successful partnership. You need to find a production studio full of people you can really gel with. Creating a custom animated video takes a lot of time and effort, so it’s important to find people that you not only like, but can work well with.
The first few interactions you have with a studio should tell you a lot about what it would be like working with them. Some things to keep in mind when first speaking with potential producers are:
- Are they responsive?
- Do they really listen and try to understand what your business is?
- Are they flexible and willing to work with the ideas you have?
- Do you enjoy interacting with them?
If you answer yes to most of these questions, you’ve found a great group of creatives to work with.
Of course, the creatives you choose to work with need to be responsive whenever you try to get in contact with them. However, it goes both ways.
The best relationships are founded on good communication. Like we said before, creating an animated explainer is no small feat, so you’ll be in constant contact with your team of creatives. They’ll be calling and emailing you asking for your preferences, art files, script questions, you name it. It’s crucial that you get back to them as soon as possible with your feedback so the production process on the creative’s end can go smoothly.
You may not know exactly what you want when going into the production process for an animated video, but if you have a good idea of what you DON’T want, you need to be clear and express those desires to your creative team.
Companies like Digital Brew exist to help you succeed. If you don’t like something that has been presented to your team, whether it’s a script, a style frame, or an illustration, you have to be honest about it. We create these videos for YOU, so we won’t be offended if you don’t like something we present to you. We won’t take it personally, we promise.
It’s also important to be up front about your expectations. From timelines to communication expectations, most creative teams will be flexible and work with your schedule, so be sure to voice what you need up front.
